Urban nature play?

Young children learning through 'nature play' in Chicago? Yes!

Although we live in an urban environment and you might think, what, where's the 'nature'? The answer is, it's all around us! It's no secret that young children learn best through their senses. Nature provides all the stimulation growing brains need to develop to their potential. When seeking to provide opportunities for children to learn through nature play, think 'How can I stimulate their senses?' Even urban kids have access to the wind, rain, dirt, plants, rocks, tastes, sounds and touch sensations their growing brains crave. Use your imagination and try to find creative ways to stimulate the five senses each day. Combining natural elements/materials and play will help your child to thrive naturally!

To get you started, you might like to visit one of my favorite nature play resources in greater Chicago, Morton Arboretum. Here's a link to their Children's and Families Program: http://www.mortonarb.org/childrens-garden/childrens-garden-programs.html
